Appreciation for writing

Damn, this free Edex Unviersity online said that for each class it would only take 3 hours a week….I spend the whole afternoon that is 5 hours learning what is enjambment, rhythm, repetition, apostrophe, alliteration, imagery, sound, metaphor, anaphora and all to learn about the writings of the great poet Walter Whitman which is what the course is about, about that guy and he uses those techniques so first I had to learn what the hell was those words.  And I´m freaking exhausted, so much technical things. But guess what, I´m the black sheep of poetry(ha, that should be a metaphor since one I´m not black and then I´m not a sheep). No, I was going to say that  the 5 hours have passed too quickly but I had to take a rest, it was exhausting. First to know what all those terms meant and then dissecting the poems pointing out where was each term or what he meant by this or that. Anyways, gaining even much more respect not only for poetry but for all the writers out there that have mastered these basic things that for me are something out of Mars. And damn cool it was to be back studying, although from home but back at school. By the way the class is taught by a professor from Harvard, so now I can say I have been in Harvard. It´s not a complete lie so it should fly.

Anyways, quite an exciting first day of class and I don´t even have classmates to argue with!

Stay Frosty gents and gentesses.

  1. Oh this is so exciting! Way to go Charly boy – SIR! (I promise what I know is still from highschool…so when you are done you will know more about those techie terms than this here idiot 😉 ) COOL!

  2. Love Walt Whitman – one of my favorite classes in college was American Literature!! (Did a paper on him – still got it somewhere.) And good for you – taking steps toward self-improvement/knowledge is always a gift to oneself 🙂

    1. So I´m the only one here who didn´t know about this guy?
Funny thing is that they asked you to name one of your favourite poems from a poet when first enrolling in the course, I just said it, had no clue about poetry so I had no poet that has influenced me nor have a poem in mind to give out to you people of Harvard, that´s cool I´m in Harvard! sort of…(actually I knew that if I started to jump to another page and see about some poet and poems my screwed up computer would freeze on me and I would have to start all over again)

      1. So you know I had to go find the damn paper 😉 It was titled “The Voice of America” and my conclusion stated some people considered him “indecent, and that too not accidentally, but on principle” and some considered him “the most significant living figure in American Literature” – you made a good choice and I think you will enjoy studying him. This might be a nice resource –
        You go Harvard man!!! 😉

  3. Sounds interesting. I am contemplating taking an online course – bit nervous. Not certain if I have the time to give, but most of all not certain if I have the ability? And, it has been like a lifetime ago since I was ‘in school’. Oy:)

    1. It´s been quite a long time for me for the school thing, but these edex courses you go at your own pace, they are free, you don´t even have to finish the course, it´s just learning. So my guess is that if you learn daily things in your every day life “simple” things as to how to make a new recipe of food, the learning school thing is quite interesting, plus keeps me busy and smarter! And also reminds me of my days in school, so as I said, you go at your own pace and pick and choose what you want. You can also pay for it and earn a degree. So it´s quite nice. Check it out if you want, just type edex university online. Maybe you find something that suits you or maybe not.
